Red Ribbon Week Kick-Off

Today we kicked-off our red ribbon week. Iprep students joined hands with our PlC students and made a human chain around the building and pledged to remain drug free.

Recap

Hello All,

Here is just a short recap of our last two weeks. We've been going batty here in kindergarten. The kids have enjoyed learning all about bats. Go ahead and ask them to tell you a fact, I bet they can teach you all about them! :)

Last week we attended the science museum and had a blast exploring. The kids had a great time watching a play about bees and we even got to experience the planetarium!

We also found some new interesting ways to work on letters and letter sound recognition. We practiced our listening skills and our fine motor skills.

Did I mention one of our newest centers... Ipad!! :)

Pumpkin Carving

Today was our pumpkin extravaganza! We reviewed all we had learned... pumpkin parts, labeling, adjectives, and sequencing. They of course wanted to get to the fun part! We first took a class vote on how we should carve our pumpkin. We had some great choices to choose from (silly, spooky, happy, etc) all adjectives of course. My morning class decided on a spooky pumpkin, while my afternoon group decided on a scared pumpkin.

I then began to carve the pumpkin while students observed. Each child then had a chance to dig into the pumpkin and take out some pulp and seeds. They each got to describe how it felt. Their faces were priceless! We wrapped up our lesson by writing in our science journals. We wrote about how the pumpkin looked, smelled, felt and what they heard.

Next week we take on our next two week unit BATS :)!

5 senses!

Today was twin day! It was so nice to see all of the kids dressed up with their friends. Tomorrow is WACKY HAIR DAY.  Today we became detectives. We discussed our 5 senses and then applied our knowledge. Students were given magazines to look through and identify things they could see, hear, taste, touch and smell. They had such a great time identifying the pictures and matching it to the appropriate sense. This was also their first time working with their very own partner. I must say they did a fabulous job. Below find some pictures of our lesson.

Pumpkin Adjectives!

Pumpkin Adjectives!

Today was such a fun day! My lovely kiddos learned all about adjectives. We then gathered around one of our pumpkins (thanks for the donation) and brainstormed adjectives to describe the pumpkin. They came up with some great descriptive words! Needless to say they are very excited to carve the pumpkin!
